Gero Onsen, Japan, is renowned for its traditional hot spring ryokans and serene natural surroundings, offering guests relaxing thermal baths and authentic Japanese hospitality. Visitors can enjoy scenic river views, local onsens, and easy access to cultural landmarks such as the Gero Onsen Museum and nearby hiking trails.

Gero Onsen Gassho-mura

Located on a hill and overlooking the famous Gero hot-spring area, Yunoshimakan, founded in 1931, offers large public indoor hot spring baths and open-air hot spring baths. Guests stay in Japanese-style rooms and can request massages for an extra cost. This traditional property is registered as a tangible cultural property and has been awarded TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence.

The air-conditioned rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding. Each comes with a flat-screen TV, a fridge and an electric kettle with green tea bags. Japanese Yukata robes and toothbrush sets are provided for all guests, and some rooms come with a private hot-spring bath. Others share bathrooms, while all rooms come with a private toilet.

Guests can relax at the traditional garden and enjoy night views of the city from the observatory. A billiard table and table tennis facilities are available for guests to spend their time. Local products can be purchased at the souvenir shop. Free WiFi is available throughout the property.

Traditional multi-course meals are served for dinner and a Japanese set-menu for breakfast. Meals are served at the guests’ rooms or at the dining room.

JR Gero Train Station is a 15-minute walk away. Yunoshimakan Ryokan is a 45-minute train ride from JR Takayama Station and a 2-hour drive from Shirakawago.

Yunoshimakan

Set between the Hida River and Japanese Alps, Suimeikan offers rooms with river views. It has 3 hot-spring baths and the on-site restaurant where guests can enjoy seasonal local ingredients.

Just a 3-minute walk from JR Gero Train Station, the Suimeikan is a 10-minute stroll from Onsen-ji Temple. Gero Onsen Gassho Village is a 5-minute taxi ride away.

Some rooms feature an open-air bath, while certain rooms boasts views of Japanese garden. There are also carpeted spacious room with  (woven-straw) flooring.

Guests can enjoy artworks designed by Japanese artists at the property. The lobby lounge features a garden view from floor-to-ceiling windows. For guests' convenience, there are facilities such as karaoke, spa, swimming pool and fitness centre.

Japanese, French or Chinese dishes are served for dinner at restaurants, upon prior request.

Suimeikan

Situated in the Gero hot-spring district and with a history of over 180 years, Yamagataya offers Japanese and Western-style accommodations with river views. Guests can relax in the indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths and use free Wi-Fi at the public areas. A free shuttle is available from JR Gero Train Station, which is a 5-minute drive away and must be reserved at time of booking.

The air-conditioned rooms feature a flat-screen TV, a fridge and a safety deposit box. Guests can choose to stay in rooms with tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding or in rooms with Western beds. Japanese Yukata robes are provided for all guests and rooms come with an en suite bathroom.

Massages can be requested for an extra cost and you can enjoy a game of table tennis. Local products can be purchased at the souvenir shop and luggage storage is offered at the front desk. Complimentary green tea is available.

Yamagataya

Established in 1817, Bosenkan is a ryokan with a 3600 square metre Japanese garden and various hot spring baths including a spacious open-air bath. Free shuttles from/to JR Gero Station is available. Free WiFi is provided at the lobby, and free private parking is also available at this ryokan. Bosenkan has been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence 2016.

Each room is fitted with a flat-screen TV. Certain rooms feature a seating area where you can relax. Towels, yukata robes, toothbrushes and a hairdryer are provided.

There is free shuttle service, a 24-hour front desk and gift shop at the property.

Gero Onsen is 500 metres from Bosenkan, while Gero Hot Spring is 600 metres from the property. Takayama city is a 60-minute drive away, while Shirakawa-go is a 120-minute drive away.

Bosenkan

Situated in Gero, near Gero Station, Gero Onsen Gassho-mura and Gero Onsen Ideyu Morning Market, TAOYA Gero has a shared lounge. This ryokan features free private parking and a 24-hour front desk. Guests also enjoy access to the sauna and hot spring bath, as well as the public bath and open-air bath.

At the ryokan, units have a desk. A fridge and kettle are also offered. All units will provide guests with air conditioning, a safety deposit box and a flat-screen TV.
